Fingerprint scanners in smartphones work faster

Fingerprint scanners in Galaxy smartphones work faster with this hack

In recent years, manufacturers have started to replace physical fingerprint scanners with an optical solution. Optical fingerprint scanners allow manufacturers to place them under the display. However, it comes with a downside: these types of scanners are usually slower than their physical counterparts.

Samsung users discovered a way to make their fingerprint scanners work faster though. This hack is as simple as disabling the battery optimization for the fingerprint scanner. Those who have the latest Samsung devices can try this hack by doing these steps:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Search for “Optimize battery usage”.
  • Select the first thing that appears on the list.
  • Tap the drop-down menu and select “All”.
  • Search for “com.samsung.android.biometrics.app.settings”
  • Disable the battery optimization if enabled.
  • Reboot.

Users noted that this hack may not work on all devices. According to some users on XDA-Developers, it works on any Note 10 series devices. As for the latest Galaxy S20, users reported having mixed success with the hack. The hack also works on a Tab S6, according to one user.

One reason why the hack works on some Samsung devices may have to do with the aggressive battery optimization. Most Android manufacturers have their own implementation of battery optimization. Some, however, take it to the extreme by optimizing even the apps critical to a device’s proper functioning. It looks like Samsung even optimized the fingerprint scanners for some devices, resulting in a delay in day
